Altar Guild

Welcome to the Altar Guild page of the St. Barnabas website.  We’re delighted you are visiting us!  In the near future, we hope to add photos, history, and more.  We are a work in progress, so please return often to see what we’ve been doing!

Our Ministry:
The Altar Guild is a very rewarding way to serve and worship God by setting God’s Table.  It is the Guild’s responsibility to help those who enter through the doors of St. Barnabas to “Worship the Lord in the beauty of Holiness.”  It is a quiet but joyful ‘behind the scenes’ ministry.

What We Do:
In summary, the purpose of the Altar Guild is to care for the Sanctuary, prepare for all types of services and assist the Rector. We set the altar for our Wednesday & Sunday services of Holy Eucharist; care for the altar linens, liturgical hangings, communion vessels, brass, and other sacred articles used within the Sanctuary; change the altar linens according to liturgical seasons and special worship services, including baptisms, weddings, ordinations and funerals.  Members join together to decorate the Church for seasonal celebrations at Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas with contributions from the congregation.

Time Commitment:
At present, we have three teams with 3-4 people on each team.  On a rotating schedule, each team serves one month, or a total of four months per year.  We meet for two to three informal lunches each year to enjoy each others’ company, good food and laughter, with a wee bit of Altar Guild business thrown in!

Contact:
If this gentle ministry appeals to you, please contact Nora Waddell by phone (613-584-1937) or email (norawaddell@hotmail.com).  Men and women over the age of 16 are always welcomed and training is provided; no previous experience is necessary.
